Evergreen Marine Corp. was founded almost forty years ago on September 1968. From humble beginnings with just one general cargo ship, the Evergreen, the company has expanded into long haul routes to the Far East, Latin America , The Red Sea, and the Mediterranean area, earning acclaim for high-quality integrated service. To realize the “Global Evergreen” concept, Evergreen Marine Corp. has become the first sea-freight company in history to offer two-way round-the-world full-container service since 1984. From this time onwards, Evergreen Marine Corp. has become one of the top-five global container shipping companies.

Drawing upon its solid foundation in international marine transportation, the Evergreen Group strives to diversify into related businesses. The group has founded land-based transportation companies, container terminals, and heavy industry enterprises. On July 1991, EVA Airways Corp., the first private airline in Taiwan , took its maiden flight thus opening a new chapter in Taiwan aviation history. People from all walks of life have praised EVA's superb service and state-of-the-art facilities. Following the success of EVA Air, the Evergreen Group has further diversified into the tourism industry, and it has established its own chain of hotels, Evergreen International Hotels, to allow travelers to enjoy Evergreen's luxurious and warm service all over the world.

The Evergreen Group places emphasis on quality and security. In light of this, Evergreen formed the Taiwan 's first risk management division in the early 1990s. The risk management division provides consortium members with the information they need to effectively manage their risk exposure to better run their operations. The division pioneered again when it founded an exclusive captive insurance company – Marinair Insurance Company Limited on the Isle of Man in 1992. The captive company has expanded to undertake all insurance operations for the Evergreen Group. The captive company and the Evergreen Group went on to jointly establish another insurance company in Bermuda . The two insurance companies were then consolidated into Evergreen Reinsurance Company Limited. From its solid base in risk management and captive insurance management, the Evergreen Group became one of the major stockholders of Central Reinsurance Corporation in Taiwan starting July 2002, and then began a new era of national reinsurance business.

The scope of the Evergreen Group's operations progressively has expanded over oceans, continents and skies. The Evergreen Group is rooted in transportation and it has later diversified into tourism industry and insurance business. The refreshing Evergreen-green corporate image is prominent all around the world.
